Joe Griffiths
Guitar & Bass Tutor

Joe has been passionate about music from an early age, beginning his guitar journey at just eight years old. Since then, he has developed into a highly accomplished guitarist, bassist, songwriter and composer with a wealth of live performance and recording experience. In 2025, Joe graduated from BIMM Birmingham with a First Class Honours degree in Popular Music Performance, specialising in guitar.

As the guitarist for indie rock band Alice Lily, Joe has toured extensively across the UK, performing at venues and events nationwide.

He is also the bassist and songwriter for Midwest Emo/Math Rock band Vienna, who have similarly toured the UK and have amassed over 80,000 online streams. Alongside his work as a performer, Joe has composed original music for a number of short films and continues to work as a session musician around Birmingham, performing across a wide variety of genres including rock, pop, R&B, hip hop and metal.

Joe teaches acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass guitar, and welcomes students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners taking their very first lesson through to advanced players looking to refine their technique, develop their musicality or prepare for performances. Every lesson is individually tailored to suit the student’s interests, goals and preferred learning style, helping to create a relaxed, enjoyable and motivating environment where students can progress at their own pace.

Whether your ambition is to learn your favourite songs, improve your technique, understand music theory, develop improvisation skills, write your own music or gain confidence performing, Joe provides structured, engaging lessons that keep students inspired while building a strong musical foundation.

Joe is also happy to prepare students for graded music examinations, including the Trinity Rock & Pop syllabus. Having studied performance at degree level himself, he understands what examiners are looking for and enjoys helping students build the confidence and skills needed to achieve excellent results.

Above all, Joe is a friendly, patient and enthusiastic teacher who believes learning an instrument should be both rewarding and enjoyable. His combination of professional performance experience, academic training and approachable teaching style enables him to help every student achieve their own musical goals, whatever their age, experience or musical taste.
