William Jeys- Piano & Theory Tutor

William Jeys, BA (OXON), HonFTCSM, FFSC, FGMS, DipABRSM

Will is known as a pianist, vocalist and conductor for his charismatic and veracious technique, wide musical experience and for fostering a great sense of community amongst his musicians and colleagues.

Will’s engagement as a conductor has been enriched having played trumpet in some of the UK’s top professional and youth orchestras, as well as working in some of the most notable liturgical foundations in the country (such as Liverpool Anglican and Metropolitan Cathedrals, Birmingham St Philip’s Cathedral, Christchurch Cathedral Oxford, and New College Chapel, Oxford), and chamber ensembles such as Ex Cathedra and the Davey and Newman Consorts. This has been supplemented by extensive work as a soloist, pianist, singer, chamber musician, jazz musician and teacher. He is currently a Bass Lay Clerk at St Chad’s Cathedral and the Birmingham Oratory.

As of September 2023, he obtained a place at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire to study an MMus Masters course in Orchestral Conducting. Additionally, he has conducted the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Northern College of Music Symphony Orchestra, the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oxford Festival Orchestra, the Liverpool Mozart Players, the Duet Philharmonic Orchestra, and Ensemble ISIS. As a musician, he has played with ensembles such as the Hallé, the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oxford Millenium Orchestra, the Manchester Concert Orchestra, the London Concert Orchestra, the Oxford Festival Orchestra, the Duet Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Youth Orchestras.

Born in Manchester, he attended the Manchester Grammar School alongside the Junior Department of the Royal Northern College of Music, where he was taught conducting by Ewa Strusińska. Through majoring in studies including conducting, trumpet, piano and voice, he earned the position of Organ Scholar at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, before moving to Oxford University with an Organ Scholarship to Hertford College.

Through Will’s extensive knowledge and vast experience of all styles of music, he provides in-depth, personalised, fun and inspirational music lessons for all ages and we’re thrilled to welcome him onboard.
